Androcles and the Lion (Андрокл и лев)

A very big and very strong lion lives on a mountain. (На горе живёт очень большой и очень сильный лев.)

Every night he goes down to the river to drink some water. (Каждую ночь он спускается к реке, чтобы попить воды.)

One evening the lion falls into a thorny bush. (Однажды вечером лев попадает в колючий куст.)

"Ouch!" he says. («Ой!» — говорит он.)

"I've got a thorn in my foot." («У меня в лапе заноза.»)

At this moment, a poor slave called Androcles appears. (В этот момент появляется бедный раб по имени Андрокл.)

"Kind man, can you help me?" says the lion and holds up his paw to Androcles. («Добрый человек, ты можешь мне помочь?» — говорит лев и протягивает Андроклу лапу.)

"Yes, of course," says Androcles. («Да, конечно», — говорит Андрокл.)

"But quickly. My master is looking for me!" («Только быстро. Меня ищет мой хозяин!»)

Androcles kneels down and pulls the thorn out. (Андрокл опускается на колени и вытаскивает занозу.)

Soon after, Androcles's master catches him and sends him to fight with a lion in front of the Emperor. (Вскоре хозяин ловит Андрокла и отправляет его сражаться со львом перед императором.)

Androcles is very scared. (Андроклу очень страшно.)

The lion comes out of the cage and runs to Androcles. (Лев выходит из клетки и бежит к Андроклу.)

The lion stops in front of Androcles and rolls over on his back with all four feet in the air. (Лев останавливается перед Андроклом и переворачивается на спину, задрав все четыре лапы.)

How can that be? (Как такое может быть?)

Oh, yes. (Ах да.)

It's the lion from the mountain! (Это тот самый лев с горы!)

It cannot hurt Androcles. (Он не может причинить Андроклу вреда.)

The Emperor is so surprised. (Император очень удивлён.)

He sets them both free. (Он отпускает обоих на свободу.)

Androcles and the lion go back to the mountain and live happily ever after. (Андрокл и лев возвращаются на гору и живут долго и счастливо.)
