The Tale of Ivan Tsarevich, the Firebird and the Grey Wolf (Сказка об Иване-царевиче, Жар-птице и Сером волке)

A tsar has got a beautiful garden. (У царя есть прекрасный сад.)

But every night someone comes to his garden and takes golden apples from his best apple tree. (Но каждую ночь кто-то приходит в его сад и срывает золотые яблоки с лучшей яблони.)

The tsar is very angry and he asks his sons to find the thief. (Царь очень сердится и просит сыновей найти вора.)

The Magic Wild Geese (Гуси-лебеди)

An old man and an old woman have got a daughter, Alyonushka, and a little son, Ivanushka. (У старика и старухи есть дочка Алёнушка и маленький сынок Иванушка.)

One day the mother says to her daughter, "We have to work all day. Look after your brother and don't leave the house." (Однажды мать говорит дочке: «Нам надо работать весь день. Присмотри за братцем и не уходи из дома».)

But the daughter doesn't listen to her. (Но дочка её не слушается.)

My favourite character from 'The Magic Wild Geese' is Alyonushka. (Мой любимый герой сказки «Гуси-лебеди» — Алёнушка.)

She is a kind and brave girl. (Она добрая и смелая девочка.)

The wild geese take her little brother away, but Alyonushka finds him and brings him home. (Гуси-лебеди уносят её маленького братца, но Алёнушка находит его и приводит домой.)

My favourite character from the other tale is Ivan Tsarevich. (Мой любимый герой другой сказки — Иван-царевич.)

He is young and strong, and he rides on the Grey Wolf. (Он молодой и сильный, он скачет верхом на Сером волке.)

The Grey Wolf is his best friend and helps him. (Серый волк — его лучший друг, он ему помогает.)

An old man lives in a little house in the country. (Старик живёт в маленьком домике в деревне.)

One spring he plants a turnip in his garden. (Однажды весной он сажает в огороде репку.)

The turnip grows and grows, and it is very, very big. (Репка растёт и растёт и становится очень-очень большой.)

The old man wants to pull it out, but he can't do it alone. (Старик хочет её вытащить, но один не может.)

Then he calls his wife and all his family to help him. (Тогда он зовёт на помощь жену и всю семью.)

My classmates can guess the name of the tale. It is 'The Turnip'. (Мои одноклассники могут угадать название сказки. Это «Репка».)
