Russia's open-air museums show us wooden buildings from long ago. One very famous museum is Kizhi, on a beautiful island in Lake Onega (Onezhskoye) in Karelia. But there are many others. (Русские музеи под открытым небом показывают нам деревянные постройки далёкого прошлого. Один очень известный музей — Кижи, он стоит на красивом острове Онежского озера в Карелии. Но есть и много других.)

It's a small wooden country house with just one or two rooms. (Это маленький деревянный деревенский дом всего с одной или двумя комнатами.)

The family room is a bedroom, kitchen and living room all in one. (Общая комната — это сразу и спальня, и кухня, и гостиная.)

There isn't a bathroom, but there is a wooden sauna (banya) outside. (Ванной комнаты нет, зато на улице стоит деревянная баня.)

This is the 'beautiful corner' (krasny), with the family icon and a special table for guests. (Это «красный угол», в нём стоят семейная икона и особый стол для гостей.)

Now we're at Vitoslavlitsy. Let's look inside the 1882 izba from Ryshevo. (А теперь мы в Витославлицах. Заглянем внутрь избы 1882 года из деревни Рышево.)

There is a large clay oven (pech') in the corner near the door. (В углу у двери стоит большая глиняная печь.)

There are sleeping benches (polaty) above the oven. (Над печью устроены полати — лежанки для сна.)

There are low benches along the other walls, one or two tables, and a cupboard for dishes. (Вдоль других стен идут низкие лавки, стоят один или два стола и шкаф для посуды.)

A traditional Russian country house is called an izba. (Традиционный русский деревенский дом называется избой.)

It's a small wooden house with one or two rooms. (Это маленький деревянный дом с одной или двумя комнатами.)
