One day Danila is looking for malachite in the forest. (Однажды Данила ищет в лесу малахит.)

Suddenly he hears a whisper, "Danila, look for your stone on Serpent Hill." (Вдруг он слышит шёпот: «Данила, ищи свой камень на Змеиной горке».)

He turns around and sees a beautiful woman. (Он оборачивается и видит красивую женщину.)

She is there for a second, and then she disappears! (Она стоит всего секунду, а потом исчезает!)

He thinks, "Perhaps it was the Mistress of Copper Mountain!" (Он думает: «Наверное, это была Хозяйка Медной горы!»)

So he goes to Serpent Hill and finds a huge piece of malachite. (И он идёт на Змеиную горку и находит огромный кусок малахита.)

He is very happy with the stone, and he takes it home and starts to make his vase. (Он очень рад камню, приносит его домой и начинает делать свою вазу.)

Danila finishes his vase, but he is not happy, "I just can't understand the beauty of stone," he says sadly. (Данила заканчивает вазу, но он недоволен. «Я всё никак не пойму красоту камня», — печально говорит он.)

So he decides it is time to marry Katya. (И он решает, что пора жениться на Кате.)

The day before the wedding, he goes for a walk to Serpent Hill again. (За день до свадьбы он снова идёт погулять на Змеиную горку.)

"Oh, how I wish I could see the stone flower!" he says sadly. («Ах, как бы мне увидеть каменный цветок!» — печально говорит он.)

Then, magically, he sees the Mistress of Copper Mountain again! (И тут, словно по волшебству, он снова видит Хозяйку Медной горы!)
